It was a thrilling night of World Cup dressage at Olympia with a dead heat between Charlotte Dujardin and Germany’s Frederic Wandres.
‘Magical’
Both riders were awarded 80.03% in the sixth leg of the FEI Dressage World Cup Western European League. However, Frederic and the aptly named Duke of Britain achieved higher artistic marks, and were announced the winners.
“To reach the magical 80% is a real wow for me,” said Frederic, who was making his Olympia debut.
The 31-year-old only posted his first big international win at the FEI Dressage World Cup qualifier in Poland two months ago, but is rapidly rising to the top of his sport.
‘More to come’
Charlotte was riding Carl Hester’s ride Hawtins Delicato as her top ride Mount St John Freestyle is recovering from a cough.
“I was really happy with Delicato, he’s a young inexperienced horse,” said Charlotte, who also came second in the Grand Prix the night before. “I rode him as a youngster through small tour levels and he did his first grand prix in January and then Carl took over the ride.
“I literally got on him three weeks ago. I didn’t know what to expect from him in this environment and I’m pleased with our clear round, there’s so much more to come from him.”
