H&C is leaving Virgin Media

From 20th July, H&C will no longer be available to watch on Virgin Media

From the 20th of July 2020, H&C will no longer be available on Virgin Media. The good news is that H&C is now bigger and better than ever, at your fingertips on all your devices.
Here’s what you need to know in order to keep getting your H&C fix…

How can I get H&C after the 20th of July?

After the end of July 2020, you can still watch H&C in a number of different ways. We have a completely free streaming channel available right here on our website, and also on our iOS and Android apps, on Roku, on Apple TV, and on Amazon Fire TV.

You can watch our free streaming channel right away without the need for any subscription, but it gets even better for subscribers to H&C+. Join H&C+ via any of these devices (web, mobile, Roku, Apple TV and Amazon Fire), and you can enjoy our premium channel, plus more live streaming and exclusive programming such as masterclasses with top riders available any time on demand. You can also view our premium channel if you’re a subscriber to H&C on Amazon Prime Video.

Why is this happening?

More and more people are watching TV via the internet and streaming services like Netflix. These services offer the ability to watch content on the go, on your hand-held devices, and also to offer lots more than a traditional TV channel, including hundreds of hours of on demand content and box sets, and lots of live sport – even several different events at once.In order to offer these great new services, H&C has decided to stop broadcasting a single, scheduled channel via Virgin Media. Fortunately, there are lots of different ways you can now watch the channel. H&C is now in HD on all its platforms, including our free streamed channel and our subscription service, H&C+, which offers equestrian fans more than 1,400 hours of shows on demand as well as regular live events and sports archive.

I subscribed to Virgin Media to watch H&C. What do I do now?

We know many of our viewers have found H&C one of the best things about their Virgin Media subscription. Unfortunately, we’re not part of the relationship between Virgin Media and their subscribers. If you want to cancel your Virgin Media subscription, we recommend you contact Virgin Media directly.

H&C was free on Virgin Media – now I have to pay?

Actually, you don’t have to pay. As well as our terrific subscription service, H&C+, we have launched a completely free version of the channel everyone knows and loves. So, whether they have Virgin Media or not, more people in the UK and the Republic of Ireland can now watch H&C than ever before (which we think is a good thing). You can watch the free channel in a number of ways:

  • Simply visit horseandcountry.tv, click on “Channels” on the top level menu, then “H&C TV” in the drop-down menu
  • Download our free app from your usual app store (iOS or Android) and select “H&C Free” from the icons at the bottom
  • If you have a streaming device such as Fire TV, Roku, Chromecast or Apple TV, search for the app and choose “H&C TV” from the “Channels” menu, as on the website.

Not interested in watching on my phone!

You don’t have to. For many viewers, watching H&C on their phone or tablet is a plus, but you can still watch on your big screen if you have a smart TV. This also goes for the free channel.
You can do this by casting the channel from your mobile using Chromecast or Apple AirPlay, or by getting a streaming device, like Roku, Apple TV, Android TV or Amazon Fire.
If you’re having trouble, contact our customer support and we’ll try to help out.

H&C needs to improve its programmes…

And that’s exactly what we’ve done. H&C viewers have always told us they want more live sport, and now we’re showing more than ever before.

Just this month we’ve show live eventing from Barbury Horse Trials, as well as showjumping and showing competitions from Arena UK, dressage from Rotterdam and Hickstead, plus a whole lot more. Our live streaming plans for 2020 are still motoring away, as live events come back to the fore after lockdown.

Our subscription service, H&C+, is better than H&C on Virgin Media in a whole lot of other ways too… Forthcoming highlights include exclusive masterclasses with top riders like Laura Tomlinson and Michael Duffy as well as live sport from British Dressage, British Eventing and many other disciplines.

My broadband at home isn’t very good.

We fully recognise that the variable quality of broadband services in the UK means that streaming services are just not viable for some viewers. We are committed to lobbying to improve rural broadband delivery and are engaging with a number of countryside organisations to see how H&C can use its resources to help drive this cause.
In the meantime, we’re now making shows available to download to view within the app, so you don’t even need to be connected to your wifi to watch.

What do I have to do to sign up?

You can join H&C+ by clicking the Subscribe button on our website. Just set up an account and enter your payment details, and we’ll take care of the rest. Monthly subscription costs just £5.99 and you can cancel at any time. Join for a whole year and pay just £59.99 – that’s a saving of two months off the regular price.

What’s the difference between H&C and H&C+?

Our free H&C channel is available to view for free on the internet and all your streaming devices. It has lots of your favourite shows about training and learning to improve with your horse, natural horsemanship, documentaries and highlights from top level sport, as well as taster episodes from some of our exclusive series. H&C+ is our subscription service, offering a channel that has all this plus more live sport, the full series of some of H&C’s most popular shows, and other exclusive content, as well as on demand shows and loads of live streams.

What if I have a question that isn’t answered here?

Need some more support? You can click on the Support button, or head to our Support centre, and our friendly customer service team will do their best to help you out. We hope you continue to enjoy watching our bigger and better than ever H&C.

Thanks
The H&C Team
