Broadshard Simplicity has been named Ripon Select Foods Supreme Horse of the Year Champion, ridden by Jayne Ross.
Certain charisma
Earlier in the day, the pair won the BSHA Riding Horse of the Year Championship, which saw them win a place in the final, along with nine other HOYS champions.
But Broadshard Simplicity’s elegance, conformation and star quality saw him take the title. As Jayne explained, the six-year-old large hack has real charisma and loves playing to the crowd.
“It’s always special to win here, but especially with a young horse,” said Jayne. “He went about things so beautifully and gave me the most wonderful feel.
“He just knows he is a very beautiful horse, and he’s got a certain charisma that he allows you to work with. You can just press the buttons and say ‘come on, just give us everything and give us a performance’ and he does.”
Totally elated
This is Jayne’s fourth Supreme title at the HOYS, but the first for Broadshard Simplicity’s owner, Rosettes Direct.
“We are totally elated,” said managing director David Wallace. “It is a complete dream come true for us. That horse has completely exceeded our expectations.”
Supreme pony
The Supreme Pony of the Year Championship went to Barkway Moonfairy, ridden by 10-year-old Taliah Aristidou.
The pair gained their qualification winning the LEGO First Ridden Pony the day before.
“It feels absolutely amazing,” said Taliah. “It is my last show on her, and I absolutely love her. She is just the best pony I will ever have or ever will have.”
