A pony has been saved from drowning by London firefighters, after he spent the night stuck in marshland.
Muddy water
Snoopy was found trapped in muddy water and covered in bulrushes, after escaping from a nearby field in Erith, Bexley. London Fire Brigade was called to the scene at 10am this morning (29 January) to help get the pony out.
Fire crews from Bexley and Dagenham worked in difficult conditions, crossing a stream and using inflatable mud paths to reach the 14hh pony. A specialist crew then put a harness around Snoopy and, just before midday, they managed to drag him out using large animal rescue equipment.
Cold, wet and hungry
A vet was on the scene to check him over.
“It appears that Snoopy had been in the deep muddy water all night and when firefighters arrived he was very close to drowning,” said station manager Barry Wakefield.
“Snoopy was cold, wet and hungry but it doesn’t seem to have any lasting injuries. Firefighters did a fantastic job and this incident shows how varied our work is.”
