The home team has won the 2015 Thailand Polo King’s Cup Club in Bangkok – one of the highest handicapped polo tournaments in Asia.
Exciting play
After four days of exciting play, it was Thailand’s King Power who faced HRH Prince Jefri Bolkiah’s team Ahmibah Brunei in the final.
Joining the Brunei prince, who plays with a handicap of 0, was Prince Qawi (-1), Francesco Bensadon (8) and Ale Agote (8).
King Power comprised Gonzalo Pieres (rated at 10 – the highest handicap given in polo), who was playing in Thailand for the first time, Apichet Srivaddhanaprabha (0), Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha (1) and Marcos Di Paola (8),
Playing under HPA rules, the away team started the match with four goals on the board as they were a 15-goal team, playing against King Power’s 19 goals.
Guest appearance
It was a closely fought competition, but Gonzalo helped secure King Power’s victory by scoring in the final chukka, which put them ahead 13 to 12.
Another ten goaler, Pablo Mac Donough, made a guest appearance on day one of the tournament, playing in the Brunei Polo team before flying to Dubai to play in the Gold Cup.
Organised by the Thailand Polo Association (TPA) the Thailand Polo King’s Cup is a biannual tournament, which alternates every two years with the All Asia Cup.
