Isabell Werth has secured her fourth win of the season at the final qualifier of the FEI World Cup Dressage Western European League.
Standing ovation
Isabell received a standing ovation from the packed stadium in ’s-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands, after she was awarded a whopping 87.405 for her stunning test with Emilio.
Home runners Edward Gal and Glock’s Zonik received the same treatment, slotting into second place on 83.900. His compatriot Madeleine Witte-Vrees and Cennin were third on 82.555.
Incredible season
It’s been an incredible season for Isabell with two wins on her Olympic ride Weihegold and another two with Emilio, who was at his very best in ’s-Hertogenbosch.
“Emilio certainly showed an improvement today,” said the German rider. “He was amazing; he felt like 90%!”
Edward Gal was also thrilled with the progress of his 10-year-old stallion Zonic, whose trot extensions drew gasps of delight from the crowd.
“He’s improving so fast, this was only his third World Cup,” he said. “There are a few little things that need improving, but he keeps surprising me.”
Paris final
Today’s result has decided the Western European League qualifying spots for the final in Paris on 11-15 April. Nine of the top riders from six nations – Great Britain, Austria, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands and Sweden – will do battle with the rest of the best in the world.
Emile Faurie just squeezed into equal eighth place in the league, despite having to withdraw from today’s competition with his gelding Lollipop.
