Crowds were treated to an outstanding dressage programme at the Equerry Bolesworth International Horse Show with Carl Hester taking the title in the main event.
Great potential
The first two days at Bolesworth were dominated by Charlotte Dujardin, who won six classes on an exciting selection of young talent. However, it was Carl’s turn to centre-stage in the finale.
Carl was delighted with Hawtins Delicato’s performance in the Equitop Myoplast Grand Prix Freestyle. Their score of 76.225 was enough to edge Richard Davison and Bubblingh into second place (75.875). Charlotte Fry and Dark Legend were third (72.500).
‘Incredible’
Carl perfectly showcased the potential of the 10-year-old British-bred Hanoverian, which should secure his place in the World Equestrian Games later this year.
“I am beginning to understand him,” said Carl.”The feeling on him is incredible. He has come here and gone up a level again. I did the best extended trots I’ve done with him.
“It is such a luxury having a horse that looks like him and he is so comfortable and nice in the hand. I am very happy with how it is all going. He just needs to tick along.”
‘Blown away’
Earlier in the day Charlotte’s spectacular run of success came to a climax in the F&Co Equine/Theraplate Grand Prix Special, when Mount St John Freestyle was awarded 80.362.
“I am really, really happy,” said Charlotte. “That was her first ever grand prix special and for a nine-year-old, I am just blown away by her. She gives so much, and nothing bothers her.”
