Trevor Breen has won the Talent Seekers at Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) for the fourth time – on a horse he had only just sat on.
Great job
Diamant S Aurora is normally ridden by Tracy Priest, but Trevor took over the ride the day before the competition.
“Tracy has done a great job producing her to this level and qualified her for the class,” said Trevor. “She rang me on Monday and said she was going to Barcelona for the week, so asked me to take the ride.
“She brought her to my place on Tuesday morning, I gave the horse a few jumps and now I am here!”
‘Fantastic’
Trevor previously won the Talent Seekers – which incorporates the Seven-Year-Old Championship – in 2011, 2014 and 2015. His latest victory makes it four wins in four attempts
“I said to Tracy jokingly that the horse had better keep my 100% record!” said Trevor. “She jumped her heart out and she was fantastic.”
Working Hunter
Earlier in the day, Atlantic Slim was crowned Cuddy Working Hunter of the Year Champion. The nine-year-old Irish Sport Horse, who is owned by Rebecca Collins, made light work of the testing course.
“I was surprised how big the course was, but it was built to allow you to really ride forward like going across country,” said Rory Gilsenan, who piloted Atlantic Slim to victory. “It took a lot of jumping and he put in a supreme effort.”
Racehorse to Riding Horse
The first of the SEIB Search for a Star competitions took place with Oliver Hood piloting Gateshead to victory in the Racehorse to Riding Horse of the Year Championship. The six-year-old gelding, who is owned by Zoe Turner, finished sixth last year during his first season with Oliver’s dad Allister.
“I took over the ride from dad earlier this year,” said Oliver. “He was a bit green last year and has only been lightly shown this season. We’ve been saving him for this.”
