This Friday will see the highly anticipated Friese Elfstedenspringen take place at Indoor Friesland , where riders will take on a unique course of fences up to 1.40m, run under Speed and Handiness rules (Table C). The class blends international showjumping with regional Frisian tradition, attracting some of the best showjumpers in the world in this celebration of history.
Friese Elfstedenspringen translates roughly as the Frisian Eleven Cities Jumping. The name references the famous Elfstedentocht, a long-distance skating tour linking eleven historic Frisian cities. The jumping class brings that local tradition into the equestrian arena in a unique way, and is sure to make for thrilling viewing for any showjumping fan.
The course will not only celebrate tradition, but demand precision, speed and accuracy over some technical combinations and testing fences. The horses in this class will not only need to have natural scope, but also be able to turn and cover the ground at speed, while the course will demand determination and precision from the riders.
