The Australian eventing team has won the FEI Nations Cup leg in Aachen (GER) for the first time.
Sweet success
All four riders put on a fine display and lead from start to finish to claim the sixth leg victory.
The quartet of Shane Rose, Christopher Burton, Samantha Birch and Sonja Johnson beat hosts and favourites Germany by an impressive 9.5 penalties.
Rose, who was narrowly denied the individual first spot by European champions Michael Jung and fischerTakinou, had to settle for second place with his horse CP Qualified.
But with the four fastest cross country rounds, the Australian team had safely secured the win.
British based Christopher Burton and his mount Nobilis 18 took fifth place individually and Samantha Birch and Sonja Johnson finished 10th and 21st respectively.
Germany defeated
The World champions who have won every leg in Aachen since the series began in 2012 were narrowly denied a home win this time around.
Germany looked the nation to beat, especially with Michael Jung finishing in fourth place with his team horse and reigning Olympic champion La Biosthetique Sam FBW.
The standings
Team Ireland are enjoying a fine season on the eventing circuit and finished a creditable third place behind Germany and Australia.
Great Britain, who could only manage a fifth place finish in Aachen, still hold the series lead with three legs to go.
The seventh leg of the FEI Nations Cup Eventing series will take place after the Rio Olympic Games from 16-18 September in Vairano (ITA).
