Seven coloured cobs who are being cared for by the Blue Cross are now ready to be re-homed.
Neglected ponies
When the youngsters were found by the RSPCA, they were severely underweight and in terrible condition. Confined in a small area, all seven of them had muscle wastage and overgrown feet. With very little access to food and water, the ponies were seriously malnourished and needed urgent care.
Their thick winter coats appeared matted and were lice-infected, concealing painful sores. All of them were less than a year old.
Bread
The cobs were taken into the Blue Cross charity’s care, and have since been named after types of bread – Bagel, Brioche, Ciabatta, Crumpet, Crouton, Panini and Pumpernickel – in honour of the hit BBC Show The Great British Bake Off.
They are all expected to grow to full height and could even make suitable riding horses in the future.
But for now they are seeking short-term homes where they will have time to mature and strengthen before ridden work can be introduced.
Looking for loving homes
After months of handling and basic training, the ponies have grown in confidence and now look set to embark on a happier and healthier life. They enjoy being groomed and love attention.
All of them have regained strength and condition although one is still a little lethargic, so is receiving medication and extra care before he can be rehomed.
Catherine Read, Head Groom at the Blue Cross, has been caring for the coloured cobs and believes it won’t be long until they find a loving new home.
