The British Polocrosse team came fourth in the 2015 Polocrosse World Cup in South Africa.
Battled hard
The host nation won the competition for the second time in a row, with Zambia taking second place.
The British team finished second in their group behind double world champions Australia. They then lost the semi-finals against Zambia by 29 goals to 18.
The team played Australia again in the play off for third and fourth place. The UK team battled hard, winning the opening chukka 3-2. However, Australia managed to stretch their lead in the sixth chukka and although the UK fought back in the last two chukkas, the end score was 25 to 19 for Australia.
Best female
In a Polocrosse World Cup each country has a men’s section and a ladies’ section, who play alternate chukkas. The scores of both sections are added together to give an overall result.
The UK ladies section won their half of the match and Charlotte Pykett was named best female player in the play offs.
The UK also fielded the youngest player, with 17-year-old Max Pedley playing in all matches throughout the competition.
‘Delighted’
“We are delighted to get back to number four in the world, it was where we believed we should be before the competition and so it feel great to have achieved it,” said the UK’s player coach Jason Webb.
“Obviously it would have been great to have got higher but I’m very confident that this is a base we can now build on and go even further in four years time.
The 2019 World Cup will be held in Warwick, Queensland in Australia at the world famous Morgan Park venue.
