A foal rescued from the brink of death has made a full recovery, thanks to generous support from the public.
Barely alive
When Felix was found in January earlier this year he was “barely alive” and had been dumped with another colt, who had died after falling into a drainage ditch.
“We immediately removed Felix, got him back to our specialist isolation unit where we put him on a special foal diet and a deep straw bed,” said HorseWorld equine rescue manager, Jerry Watkins.
“We had to lift him to his feet every few hours day and night as he was so weak and had such severe muscle-wastage, that he would collapse and was unable to get back to his feet.”
Star of the show
Now eight months old, Felix was the star of the show at HorseWorld’s recent open day, where those that sent in money to help with his rehabilitation were able to meet him.
“Many people donated to save Felix’s young life and his supporters were able to see for themselves how it has made a difference now that he is a fit and healthy young colt,” said Jerry.
