One of the most prestigious horse shows in the world has announced that itwill not be hosting a FEI Nations Cup qualifier this year, due to “financial reasons”.
Lengthy discussions
According to Frank Kemperman, chairman of the company that organises the World Equestrian Festival inAachen, their withdrawal from the Nations Cup means they are now “significantly more flexible” in terms of who they can invite to take part in the CHIO event (11-20 July).
FEI jumping committee chair John Madden said that lengthy discussions have taken place, but despite the “best efforts” of all parties it was not possible to resolve the matter.
Commercial requirements
“Regretfully, at the time of the 31 December deadline for declaration of participation, we were informed by the German National Federation that Aachen was unable to meet the commercial requirements and therefore would not be part of the Furusiyya series in 2014,” he said.
As a result, Lummen in Belgium has been moved into Europe Division 1 to make up the eight events in that division.
A total of 20 qualifiers will take place: eight in Europe Division 1 and 2, three in the North and Central America and Caribbean league, and a single qualifier in the Middle East league, which kicks off the series on 5-7 February.
Fabulous season
The Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup Jumping Final will once again be held at the Real Club de Polo of Barcelona, which was the venue for the equestrian events at the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992.
“Following the success of last year’s inaugural Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup series and the fantastic final in Barcelona, we are looking forward to another fabulous Furusiyya season starting at Al-Ain in the United Arab Emirates next month,” John said.
