Around the Dog World is sadly coming to an end, after six years and an incredible 68 episodes.
Wide audience
The popular programme takes viewers behind the scenes at championship dog shows and special events around the UK.
The brains behind the broadcast is Simon Baillie who started out filming dog shows and putting them online.
“I wanted to get dog showing out to a wider audience,” explained Simon. “I’m a big fan of most sports and felt we could produce something for the dog world that was similar to how other sport is filmed.”
Special memory
Simon made a pilot back in August 2011, but never believed it would get commissioned. Luckily for him Jonathan Rippon, head of programming at H&C, spotted its potential and put dog showing back on national television.
With so many episodes and so many dog shows what has been the highlight for Simon?
“I really enjoyed Crufts this year,” he said. “It was a great show and I felt we captured the essence of it all.”
“Another special memory was filming the moment when the Top Dog was announced at the Ladies Kennel Association at the end of last year. It was rather emotional for the young girl who won it.”
Last episode
The very last episode of Around the Dog World comes from the Southern Counties Canine Association Championship Dog Show and features the Group, Best Puppy, Best Veteran and Best in Show.
As well as the classes there are interviews with the winners and judges.
The show also features highlights of the Best in Show from Bath Canine Society Championship Dog Show and the National Dog Show in Staffordshire.
