Broadshard Simplicity has won the Ripon Select Foods Supreme Horse of the Year for the second year running.
True testament
The seven-year-old qualified when he won the Colosso Family Riding Horse of the Year Championship earlier in the day.
He went on to put in another foot-perfect performance and, after much deliberation from the judges, was crowned Supreme Champion for the second consecutive year.
“It’s a moment to savor and we are very lucky that we have had the opportunity to do it,” said Jayne who celebrates her fifth Supreme title at HOYS.
“It’s certainly a true testament to his ability and his lovely temperament and attitude.”
‘Amazing pony’
The Ruckleigh School Supreme Pony of the Year Championship saw nine HOYS champions compete again for the prestigious title.
The judges declared Sarum Rembrandt, ridden by Sarah Parker, the Supreme winner. The Welsh A stallion qualified for the final by winning the NPS/Baileys Horse Feeds Mountain and Moorland Ridden Pony of the Year Championship earlier in the week.
“He gave it all, he went in there, he shone, he was just up for winning it and he’s just an amazing pony,” said Sarah.
Striking
Other combinations to qualify yesterday for the final were Sadhbh O’Connor and Valentine Dignity, who won the Topham Barnes Show Hunter Pony of the Year, and Cate Kerry and Cadlanvalley Super Ted, winners of the Lead Rein Pony Hunter Type.
The popular Coloured Horse and Pony of the Year Championship went to Allister Hood and Our Cashel Blue. The striking blue and white gelding impressed the judges to beat horses and ponies from three other coloured sections.
“I am absolutely delighted it’s such a thrill to win at a big occasion like this and especially with a horse that you’ve bought from virtually unbroken all the way through its career,” said Alistair.
Magnificent horses
Saving the biggest till last, the final showing title at HOYS was the Shire Horse of the Year Championship. This is widely regarded as one of the most prominent breed classes in the country and celebrates the tradition and strength of these magnificent horses.
For the second year running the title went to Metheringham Upton Hamlet handled and owned by Paul Bedford.
