Don’t be fooled by the fabulous (and unpronounceable) title of H&C’s new series – as Keeping up with the Kaimanawas couldn’t be further from its Californian counterpart.
Wild Stallion Challenge
Yes, it features three very glamorous sisters, with long glossy hair, but while the Kardashians spend their time shopping and taking selfies, the Wilson sisters are serious grafters.
Keeping up with the Kaimanawas follows top showjumpers and trainers Vicki (25), Kelly (23) and Amanda (19) as they go on their wildest ride yet. Their task is to save the Kaimanawa horses from slaughter and train them for New Zealand’s first ever national Wild Stallion Challenge.
Troubled backgrounds
The girls are no stranger to dealing with ‘difficult’ horses as they rode from a young age and their family could only afford unbroken ponies, or those with behavioural problems.
The sisters are now prominent figures on the New Zealand showjumping scene, having successfully competed at grand prix level. Many of their top horses come from troubled backgrounds, but can they tame the wild Kaimanawa horses?
Essential viewing
There is $50,000 up for grabs, but the much bigger prize for the Wilsons is raising awareness of the Kaimanawas and proving these horses are worth saving.
The show makes for essential viewing as the girls are often wilder than their horses! As Amanda says, they are “unorthodox, competitive and don’t hold back”.
Oh, and it’s pronounced. ‘Kye-man-ah-wha’.
