Simon Charlesworth continued his winning streak with Fait A Cobbli, taking the title in the Virbac 3D Worming Cob of the Year Championship at Horse of the Year Show (HOYS).
Relief and shock
This is their third major win this year, having won the same class at the Royal International at Hickstead and Windsor Horse Show. However, HOYS was the one he really wanted.
“I can’t quite believe it,” said Simon, who is based in Newmarket. “When you win I think it is a mixture of relief and a bit of shock.”
“He couldn’t have done any more in there. He has been fantastic all season, and he pulled the stops out tonight.”
Fantastic engine
As Simon told H&C what makes the nine-year-old such a winner is that he has good limbs and a lot of bone for a lightweight cob.
“He’s a lovely mover and he has got a fantastic engine,” he said. “He is so light and he finds everything so easy. That is what makes him a great horse.”
Awesome
The Kathleen Wood Children’s Riding Pony of the Year Championship went to 10-year-old Lucy Bywater on Broadgrove Only You.
The seven-year-old bay gelding is owned by her grandmother and according to Lucy he is a very easy and forward-doing ride.
“It was awesome in there,” said Lucy, who is a pupil at Red Maids School in Bristol. “It was really good when my name was called out. It was a feeling that normally doesn’t happen. Winning here means everything to me.”
Legoland
In another pony class, Elizabeth Aristidou’s Barkway Moonfairy was crowned LEGO Friends Mini Show Pony of the Year Champion, ridden by Taliah Aristidou.
