With the Eventing season well under way, the FEI Classics 2016 / 2017 kicks off again next month – and H&C is showing highlights from each leg.
Big bonus
The FEI Classics brings together all six of the four-star events on the international Eventing calendar, with points accumulated across the series.
There is US$90,000 up for grabs in total, with US$40,000 going to the rider with the highest number of points at the end of the season. Germany’s Michael Jung won last season, while William Fox-Pitt has been the most successful rider in the series, achieving four wins since it started in 2008.
First victory
The first leg at Les 4 Etoiles de Pau in France last October was won by Maxime Livio who achieved his first four-star victory on home turf. It looked like Olympic gold medallist Michael Jung would win the event for the second year running, as he was in the lead going into the final phase on FischerRocana FST.
However, the pair had an uncharacteristic two fences and dropped down to third place. Michael was also second with FischerTakinou.
Catch the action
The second leg was won by Hazel Shannon and Clifford at the Australian International 3 Day Event in Adelaide, which is Australia’s only four-star event.
The remaining four events in this exciting series are: Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event (27 – 30 April); Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials (3 – 7 May); Luhmuhlen CCI**** presented by DHL Germany (15 – 18 June); and Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials (31 August – 3 September).
