The final of the Longines Global Champions Tour (GCT) is just days away, with the world’s best showjumpers battling it out for a total of £1.3million of prize money – and you can watch the action live on H&C.
Do the double
The last leg of the series is being held at CSI5* Doha at the Al Shaqab stadium (13-15 November), where there is the chance to win nearly £350,000 if a rider can win both the Grand Prix and the championship.
Scott Brash pulled off the double last year on his 28th birthday, and he is back to defend his title. The world number one is currently lying in third place on 210 points, behind Germany’s Ludger Beerbaum (242 points) and Swedish showjumper Rolf-Göran Bengtsson (230).
Other big names hoping to win big money in the Grand Prix include Michael Whitaker, Edwina Tops Alexander (AUS), Steven Guerdat (SUI), Rodrigo Pessoa (BRA) and Eric Lamaze (CAN). But no one can catch the top three in their bid for the 2014 GCT series title.
Dangerous
“I have to watch out for both Scott and Rolf,” said the current leader Ludger. “But the fact that Scott is still without his maximum seven scores counting makes him more dangerous, as he can get full points in Doha but Rolf and I cannot.
“If Scott finishes fifth or above in the grand prix and I am behind him, he wins. I need to have myself and my horse fresh and fit in Doha.”
