A horse with a broken neck was left to die on the side of a Derbyshire road, surrounded by rubbish.
The RSPCA was alerted by police when the light colt cob was discovered by a member of the public on the 22nd November. The injured horse was found at the side of the road in Meadow Lane, Shirebrook, and with the nearest on-call RSPCA officer some 80 miles away, a vet was called to attend.
Sadly, the piebald colt died of his injuries before the vet could arrive. It is believed that the pony had suffered a broken neck.
The animal, who was not microchipped, was removed from the site the next morning, when an RSPCA officer visited the scene.
“This poor little pony was dumped among the rubbish by the side of the road without a second glance,” said RSPCA inspector Deborah Scotcher.
The RSPCA are appealing for information surrounding this incident. “To abandon an animal with such an horrendous injury is just unthinkable and I’d like to find out who is responsible,” continued Deborah.
