Avon Vale hunt master Stuart Radbourne won the Countryside Alliance Race for Repeal at Ascot on Sunday (30 March).
Romp home
Seven jockeys were taking part in the charity race in aid of the Countryside Alliance, riding horses loaned to them by racing trainers.
Stuart, who also hunts the Avon Vale hounds,drew on his past as a point-to-point jockey to romp home 14 lengths in front on board theRichard Hannon-trained Red Refraction.
In second place came Joshua Cameron, huntsman of the Wilton, and in third, Mark Bycroft, huntsman of the Old Surrey Burstow and West Kent.
Confident
Stuart only sat on the four-year-old colt for the first time three days before the race, but felt confident that he could win.
“A bus-load of people from the hunt came down to Ascot for the race and we partied hard after my win,” sais the winning jockey. “I really enjoyed it and hope to do another charity race now, maybe at Newmarket.”
Sara Rutherford of the Countryside Alliance said: “It was fabulous to see so many hunt supporters turning out to support their hunt masters and staff. The riders have raised more than £10,000 between them to help our fighting fund for repeal of the Hunting Act.”
