Pieter Devos has won the fifth leg of the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup Western European League in Stuttgart, Germany.
‘Really happy’
The Belgian rider beat Austria’s Max Kuehner and PSG Final into second place by almost eight seconds. Germany’s Christian Ahlmann was third riding Tokyo.
Pieter was last to jump with the chestnut gelding Apart and knew what he had to do.
“I could see I could go six or seven seconds quicker, but I also knew if I knocked a fence then I would be nowhere,” he said. “But Apart jumped really well, he already won a lot of classes for me but never anything as big as this, so I’m really happy for him.”
After his win in Stuttgart, Pieter is in second place on the Western European League table and well on the way to securing his place in the Longines Final in Gothenburg next April.
World Cup Driving
Stuttgart also hosted the World Cup Dressage and Driving. Isabell Werth took the title in the dressage with Bella Rose, while Ijsbrand Chardon won the driving.
The FEI Driving World Cup saw a thrilling drive-off. Dutch master Ijsbrand beat two other teams, finishing in 146.95sec with four penalty points, for a total score of 150.95.
Second place went to Belgium’s Glenn Geerts, who had the only double clear of the day for a drive-off time of 154.73sec. József Dobrovitz of Hungary finished third on a total score of 158.96, including eight penalty points for knock downs.
