Princess Anne has been given an award by the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA).
Pivotal role
The BEVA Welfare Award 2014 was given to the Princess Royal in recognition of her contribution to the well-being and protection of equines.
Princess Anne is president or patron of a large number of equestrian organisations and charities, including BEVA, World Horse Welfare, Riding for the Disabled, Animal Health Trust and Home of Rest for Horses.
She also played a pivotal role in the introduction of the National Equine Welfare Protocol, following the Spindles Farm welfare scandal in 2008.
The protocol sets out guidelines on how cases of horse neglect and abuse should be reported and handled, and what organisations can do to help reduce the incidence of welfare problems.
Strong voice
The Welfare Award was introduced by BEVA in conjunction with the Blue Cross in 2000. It was presented to Princess Anne by Blue Cross chairman Zair Berr at the 53rd BEVA Annual Congress (date).
