A large dog thought to be a Rottweiler took chase after a horse and rider in the Scottish Borders.
Terrified
The woman was riding near the River Tweed when the dog began to chase her horse.
Attempting to lose the dog she galloped her horse towards the Gattonside area but the dog continued to chase them for a further three miles.
The terrified rider feared for the safety and welfare of her horse but fortunately they finally managed to escape from the dog.
Police are now appealing for any information to help trace the dog’s owner.
Riders at risk
Horse riders who take to the countryside are gradually becoming more at risk to out of control dogs which raises a concern for the equestrian lovers.
John Scott the Inspector based at Kelso police station understands the severity of this case.
“This was a frightening experience for someone to go through and dog owners must be aware of their responsibilities when taking their pets into rural areas ” he said.
