A Border Collie who went missing on England’s highest mountain has been found thanks to a social media campaign.
‘Best pal’
Adam Nolan lost his dog Jasper on 2 November while walking at Cam Spout Crag in the Lake District. Adam searched for his “best pal” for five hours, but when he came home empty handed he decided to get social media involved.
The #FindJasper campaign went viral, with the dog’s photo being shared more than 250,000 times on Facebook. A number of sightings were reported, and on day four of the search the dog was finally found by a member of the public in “very good condition” near the summit of Scafell Pike.
Safe return
The Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team were alerted and they began the rescue operation. Jasperwas reunited with his owner in the early hours of Thursday morning (6 November).
“I’m over the moon to announce the safe return of my best friend Jasper,” wrote Adam on Facebook. “Naturally there are numerous individual who I would like to thank, but at the moment I would say a huge thank you to Geoff and the Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team for their heroic efforts this morning.”
Raising money
To show his thanks Adam has set up a JustGiving page to raise money for the rescue team involved, all of whomwork on a voluntary and unpaid basis.
The campaign has already raised nearly £32,000, but it aims to raise a total of £500,000 to build Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team a new base.
