A dead horse and an abandoned gypsy cob in poor health have been found by the RSPCA.
Thin and lethargic
Inspector Kirsty Withnall discovered the black gelding tethered in a field in Hertfordshire, the day after her colleague was called to the area to deal with a horse that had died.
The cob, who has been named Billy byRSPCAstaff, was very thin and lethargic. He also had a high temperature and was suffering from worms. It is estimated he is between one and two years old.
“Billy has a really sweet temperament and is already showing signs of recovery after he received veterinary treatment andRSPCAcare,” said Kirsty.
“If nobody comes forward to claim him I’m sure we’ll be able to find him a new home where he’ll be well looked after.”
Irresponsible owners
According to Kirsty fly-grazing is a real problem in Colney Heath, which is where the two horses were found.
“Charities like theRSPCAcannot keep picking up the pieces when horses are left by irresponsible owners on other people’s land with no thought for the animals’ welfare,” she said.
Anyone with information about Billy should call 0300 123 8018 and leave a message for inspector Withnall.
