A foal who battled the against all odds has been rehomed by the veterinary nurse who helped save his life
Will to survive
Frodo was found by World Horse Welfare during a visit to a herd of cobs in a field in Cheshire. The horses were left without enough food, water or protection from the freezing conditions.
The three-month-old Frodo was very weak, crawling with lice and had a distended belly due to parasitic worms.
After failed attempts to trace his owner, the charity removed Frodo with help from the RSPCA and the police. It was taken to their rescue and rehoming centre at Penny Farm near Blackpool, where he surprised staff with with his will to survive.
‘Extremely lucky’
Frodo’s needed intensive, round-the clock care from the veterinary team and grooms there. He has been put on a special diet to help him grow, and within a few weeks has made huge improvements.
“Frodo is extremely lucky to have been removed when he was – given another 24 hours he would certainly have died,” said Suzanne Green from Oakhill Veterinary Centre.
Veterinary nurse Katie Eva was one of the staff who spent many nights caring for Frodo. She has become so attached the foal she has decided to offer him a new home.
Loving home
“It’s fantastic to see Frodo up and about,” said centre manager Fran Williamson. “His strength of character is a wonderful reward for all the nights spent nursing him and the turn-around is just remarkable.
“We couldn’t be more delighted that one of the dedicated team who helped save his life is able to give him the safe and loving home he deserves. We are so proud of him.”
